There are two types of iron – iron derived from animal protein which is the most readily absorbed by the body and iron from plants which is harder for the body to absorb.
Cooking one fish in one litre of water with 2-3 drops of lemon juice releases about 6-8 mg of iron that can be absorbed by the body. This is about 40% of the average daily amount of iron that your body needs. As most people have a diet that contains ‘some’ iron then using the Fish regularly helps boost the total amount of iron in a person’s diet.
The table below shows how much food you would need to eat to get the same amount of iron as using the Lucky Iron Fish.
The Lucky Iron Fish releases safe levels of iron when used as directed. The Lucky Iron Fish would have to be intentionally misused (e.g. boiling for hours at a time). This would change the taste and smell of the liquid making it very undesirable to use.
